I am fascinated by the concept of synaesthesia, where one type of sensual stimulation evokes the sensation of another. A digital video camera was focused on a screen built with wrapped fishing line. The images received were then projected back onto the screen, creating visual feedback and casting enough light for the camera to operate. When people danced or moved in front of the camera, their motions were processed by a computer and immediately translated into sound. Because I wanted to encourage people to experiment in the environment, the only instructions given were: &qout;Come and play. Move something around. Touch the wire screen, move a candle, look in the camera and smile, walk around in circles, jump up and down, sing and dance, be yourself, be someone else. Have fun.&qout;
